Rime season at Kirkwood

Winters at Kirkwood: Ryan on ski patrol, Carly running communications for the resort.

Kirkwood, California · 38.664° N 120.061° W

Winter is Kirkwood. Ryan is going into his ninth season on ski patrol, and part of the job is avalanche control: setting off slides with explosives before the lifts open. Carly runs communications for the resort.

By April the wind had coated every fence post and sign up top in rime ice.
